Dr. Kim Lema
Marine scientist, Educator & Founder of EMA Australia

Kim is an internationally published marine scientist, founder of Educational Marine Areas (EMA) Australia, and a registered teacher with experience across university, high school, and primary education. Her scientific work has taken her across Australia, the Caribbean, the Indo-Pacific, and the Persian Gulf, where she has contributed to leading research on coral reef microbiomes and marine microbial ecology.

Above all, she is a passionate educator and dedicated maths teacher, deeply committed to advancing both Ocean Literacy—Waatu Kaatajin (Wadandi for "Ocean Knowledge")—and mathematical thinking. Kim believes that one of the most powerful things we can do today is inspire the next generation to connect with, understand, and care for our oceans. Through the EMA initiative, she hopes to inspire and empower young people to become the future custodians of our coasts.

Iszaac (Zac) Webb
EMA Cultural advisor
Iszaac (Zac) Webb is a proud Wadandi-Pibulmun cultural custodian and Co-founder of the Undalup Association. Born and raised on Wadandi Boodja (Saltwater Country) in the South West of Australia, Zac carries forward the knowledge and traditions passed down from his Elders. As one of the last speakers of the Wadandi language, he plays a vital role in preserving and sharing the cultural heritage of the Wadandi people.
Zac is deeply committed to fostering understanding and respect for Aboriginal culture and country, leading cultural ceremonies and initiatives that strengthen connections to the land and sea. Through his work, Zac supports the EMA program’s mission to build meaningful relationships between communities and their local marine environments.
